Van Helsing

Directed by Stephen Sommers
2004, Universal Pictures
2 hours, 11 minutes
Rating: ★★★☆☆
CGI was most likely good at time of release, and can still hold up in some scenes, if not overdone. Characters are vapid, predictable, and campy. They’re also either oversexualised, oozing with toxic masculinity, or meek and ugly. However, Richard Roxburgh is absolutely peak as Dracula and the soundtrack by Alan Silvestri slaps. The movie is overall enjoyable if you meet it on its own terms, though my opinion may be coloured by nostalgia and its definitely a product of its time.
