The Mummy is similar to Van Helsing—in more ways than one. Both movies were directed by Stephen Sommers, the CG holds up surprisingly well, and the nostalgia hits pretty hard. and like Van Helsing, The Mummy ends up being a campy, hilarious theme park ride with little substance, rife with middle eastern Orientalism, popular Egyptology, and straight up racism.
