New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is just as nonsensical, chaotic, and crude as its predecessor—and all the better for it. Like the first series, New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt presents a perfect union between Japanese anime and their scarily accurate perception of Western animation. This second series is much more graphic when it comes to violence, and much more explicit when it comes to sexual content. The shift toward adult themes is likely thanks to Amazon funding the project, as they have been less restrictive when it comes to adult animation, as seen with The Legend of Vox Machina and probably The Mighty Nein. I think the show uses the explicit, graphic content to its advantage, especially when it experiments with its animation style. Despite its problematic elements, the show ends up being a hilarious romp through Japan’s perception of Western media.
