The Sound of Music must certainly be a product of its time because I see very little value for it in the modern day. The editing and cinematography is uninteresting, the story is dull, and the characters are generally unlikeable. It may be because I’m not usually a fan of musicals like this—as evidenced by my criticism of Wicked Part I—but I just didn’t really get the buzz around this film. There’s certainly something about its pastoral imagery and anti-Nazi messaging, but it’s not enough to make me want to watch it again.
